Hi-- Coo?

Um.. hubby is trying to write a haiku right now as a joke to some friends.

Me: How long did it take you to figure out all of the syllables?
Hubby: The syllables?
Me: Yeah, you know.. there's a pattern to a haiku. It's like 5, 7, 5.. er, 3, 5, 3..
Hubby: How the heck did you know that?
Me: Um.. I'm a teacher, we know everything.
Hubby: I'm thinking you're the dork now, Haiku-girl.
Me: You're WRITING the haiku.

I think it's a toss up at this point. But I'm leaning slightly towards him because a) he's writing a freaking haiku (poetry, come on!) and b) he didn't know that there were rules for writing a haiku.

And.. he thinks today is just one syllable. I made him clap it out. Dork.

Dear Driver....

If you were sitting next to hubby and I tonight at a light digging for gold picking your nose, please don't wonder why we were both staring at you. It's just a little odd when you see someone picking their nose while driving.

And don't worry, we didn't laugh at you (much).

Sincerely,
L

Random Musings...

These are the pumpkins my kiddos decorated. I, of course, had images of cute little pumpkin faces smiling brightly. Instead, this is what I got. I think they are quite funny. And totally representative of my kids. Look at the color mixing going on here!
This one even has the stem decorated!

In other news, I lost again this week! I'm down a total of 4.5 pounds. Only 11.5 to go! Now, I'll be honest.. I wasn't very good about logging my points this week, but I really feel like I consciously made better choices. Take last night for example. We were out to eat at a pub (not my choice) with a friend of hubby's. Instead of scarfing down the cheeseburger like I wanted to. I asked hubby to split chicken tenders with me and my appetizer was a side salad. That was a healthy choice and caused me to eat less in the end.
We've been invited to a Halloween party on Friday and I haven't a clue what we're going to wear. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

What.a.Day.

You know what kind of day it was when I have happy hour on Monday.

Yes, I drank on a Monday night.

To top it off? I was definitely making lunches for tomorrow when hubby came downstairs and said to me, "Why is your purse still on your shoulder?" Um.. excuse me?

Yes, I did have my purse on my shoulder and no I did not realize it was there.

I.am.losing.my.mind.

Name-Calling...

Apparently I'm a woser. A big, fat woser. [that's loser, but little guy can't pronounce his l's]

Annnnnd, if that wasn't bad enough... nobody wikes me.

All of this after the cutie destroyed half of my room. Seriously, it's like they know that nothing else bothers me, so they feel the urge to destroy my classroom. Call me every name in the book, just don't.touch.my.$hit.

Except he had to clean it all up. And that included the 198 word wall words that were in alphabetical order. Now he's spending his free time organizing it back to the way it was. I don't have the heart to tell him that probably half of it was out of order anyway. I was meaning to organize those one day....

Loser...

Yup, that's me.

Today I made the brave decision to give blood. I've only done it once before and I'm scared crazy when it comes to needles and my own blood. I can handle anyone else's blood... just not my own. I was so proud of myself when I watched the woman prick me AND I took a look to see where all that blood was going. I was pretty darn proud.

This is where the loser part comes in...

I stand up and make a joke that the comfy seats are just so hard to get out of. I walk to the canteen and BAM! fell to the floor, only to feel like I was going to vomit all over the lady's shoes. They rushed me to the gurney looking thing and tell me to lay down while they place ice cold paper towels on my head and neck. They then close the curtain and bring me a barf bag. Sweet.

Fast forward about 5 minutes and I'm feeling better. I sit up and make my way back to the seat I was supposed to sit in. It hits again, I'm going to pass out or vomit. I'm rushed back to the gurney. After about 20 minutes, I feel MUCH better and am actually able to sit up and eat something.

Damn. I was so proud of myself, too! That's what I get for not eating a huge breakfast before I gave blood. Next time, I promise.

So.. next time you're donating blood and you see someone who doesn't look well, don't laugh. It could be me.

:)

I might have a new friend! A real life friend, not all of you blog friends. Believe me, I love all my blog friends... but I also need real-life friends.

This is huge for me. I'm really hoping this works out. I know that sounds so silly, but it's true. I don't really have any real-life friends that I actually do things with. You know, the friend you call when you just need someone to run to the mall with. Or the friend you call when hubby is going to be out of town because she'll watch the chick flicks with you.

I grew up with lots of girl friends, especially some very close girl friends. Once I moved here, that changed. It became hard to meet people and make close friendships. Don't get me wrong, I have worked and currently work with some pretty cool people. But they have their own friends, or they live 40 minutes away, or they just didn't like me. I prefer to think it's the distance, I know I'm pretty cool.

So this is really getting me excited. Blondie from the couples date told hubby that she had a really good time and that we should go shopping together. Thankfully hubby played it cool and didn't make me sound like a nerd without any friends (which I am) and said, "Try and keep my wife away from a mall!" Whew. He didn't sell me out, yet.

So, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sunday "workout"

Okay, so hubby and I have been talking about doing Tai Chi at the gym since we joined (two years ago..) and just haven't gotten around to it. Since hubby is training for the marathon, he's looking for other things to do to keep him stretched. We totally thought Tai Chi would be for us. You know, relaxing, stretching, deep breathing. Fun, right?

Maybe if you don't mind not talking for an hour (which I CANNOT do!) and trying not to make eye contact with your husband for fear that you'll break down into a fit of laughter.

I'm sure it's great for some people, but it's not for us. We're not all about the slow-motion martial arts, finding our "chi", and deep breathing. I spent the whole time wondering if I could find my chi even though I wasn't breathing correctly. At least we had a good laugh AND he took me to breakfast!

A side story... yesterday, hubby comes into the house and tells me that something is wrong with his car. I immediately panic (because that's what I do) and think, "Crap! Ashley just spent like $1,000 on her car.. we can't be doing that!" So I ask him what's up. He explains that when he stops, especially suddenly, there's a loud clanking sound. Crap! That can't be good, right? Breaks shouldn't clank. I tell him we'll keep an eye on it and if it continues, we'll have to take it in.

Later on in the day, we're heading to the store in his car. He reminds me to listen for the noise. Well, we break and I hear it. But it totally sounds like it's inside the car and not coming from the car itself. I reach under his seat and pull out.... a HANGER! Yes, a plastic hanger.

I about died laughing and proudly proclaimed, "That's blog-worthy babe!" and he gave me permission to tease him on here. He's so wonderful.

Ha Ha, oops.

So I've been told a time or two that I'm in my own world when I'm on the computer or reading. We're talking ... I have no clue what is going on around me, in my own world.

It should come as no shock to those who know me that I was totally on the computer, ignoring everything going on around me, when I noticed the dogs were laying quietly behind me. I thought, gee that's strange.. usually they are barking at a bird or chasing each other. This time? Looking longingly at the roman blinds, hoping I would open them. We're talking intense looking at the roman blinds because there was little wet spots where their noses were.

Awww.. how could I ignore those cute little faces?

Don't worry.. I opened up the blinds. Now they are happy as can be and putting the nose marks on my windows, of course.

The weekend..

... was AWESOME! We went whitewater rafting and had a blast! We didn't lose anyone over board, which was our goal. We had lots of laughs and a few times when we thought we were going to lose someone. The weather was awesome and camping was fun.

I have lots to say... but I'm not feeling very witty. Tonight is my last night with the cuz. She's leaving Wednesday morning, but I have class until way late tomorrow so I won't get to see her. I'm very, very, very sad. So sad that I can't even tell a witty story to save my life.

One more thing..

Is it crazy that I get so happy when I press spell check and nothing comes up? I seriously smile. I am so proud of myself. Then I get angry when it says I spelled some slang term wrong. I didn't spell it wrong, you just don't know how to spell stupid spell check.

I also laugh when people spell something on an assignment wrong. I'm like, well.. guess you should have listened better when your teacher was teaching you English! I mean seriously, you're in college. You're taking grad classes. LEARN HOW TO SPELL! Especially when it's the your/you're.. or they're/there/their.. I cringe at their usage and then giggle because I know I'm smarter than they are.

Of course, it's only with adults. Never with children.

Ah.. the little things in life.

Don't worry. When I pressed spellcheck-- zip, zero, zilch errors. "No misspellings found!" Duh! I'm a freaking genius!

Puppy Love

Okay, so today hubby took the dogs for a run... well, big dog stopped for a drink of water and decided to lay down in the disgusting lake water. Serioulsy, this water is so gross-- I'm surprised she didn't come out with an extra limb or something. It's pretty to look at, but the lake is man made and the water just doesn't move so it's mostly green.

Anyway... we didn't want her on the couch being wet, disgusting, and smelly to no end. So S and I gave her a bath. I forgot how obnoxious she is when she is getting a bath (thus the reason I haven't given her one in months!). I ended up soaking wet, S ended up soaking wet, and my bathroom was just a disaster! That wasn't quite the annoying part. She then decided to act like a 12 week old puppy and tear around the upstairs and running away from me as I tried to dry her off! It was quite hysterical! I wish I would have had the camera to take some video.

So I had a nice chuckle and the dog smells so fresh! Little dog might be next...

... on second thought, she whines like a baby the whole time and it makes my ears hurt. She doesn't stink, so I think she's okay! =)

Hello.

Well, here I am. I have been reading blogs that others have and decided I wanted to join the world of blogging. Of course, it's a return to the world of blogging. While I was traveling overseas, I had a blog. But somehow this seems different. Maybe because I don't really have a point to it. I have creative license to do whatever it is I want. And, I don't really have an audience. But J and I came up with like seven readers, so she thinks I do have a point.

Anyway, I can't guarantee anything with this. It may be ramblings of my ditzy life. It may have stories of the kiddos I teach. It may be dog stories. It probably will be a combination of all of the above.

And.. I just have to post this story because it was the selling point in wanting a blog.

So, every time I drive by a Hummer... I want to scream, "HA HA SUCKA! I get better gas mileage than you!" But usually it involves some profanity because it's in my head and it probably includes me doing some sort of crazy hand movement towards them. Nothing bad. Just silly. Of course, I look way better in my head than I probably look to everyone else.

On the flip side... every time I drive by a Prius, I want to cower. I feel like they are judging me and my grandma car. Whatever. I don't have a car payment.
