...and I am not one of those girls!
You see, I'm not very lucky. In the past few months, I've separated from my husband (unlucky in love), had a car accident (just downright unlucky), and got the stomach flu on Christmas (pretty crappy). Now? I'm staying at the house (I've since moved out and into a fabulous condo that I found randomly on craigslist, so I suppose I do have some luck!) with the dogs, as my ex is out of town and two dogs in one tiny condo isn't such a good idea.
Where was I? Oh yeah, I'm staying at the house. Well, the heat decided to stop working. I know, right. Of course it would happen when I was there. It's winter, folks. That means it's super-cold. After problem solving with my father-in-law (ex father-in-law? how does that work?) we decided it was unsafe to have the furnace on, as the flame that attempts to start the furnce keeps getting bigger and we really don't need third degree burns now do we? So, as a result.. I'm sleeping in the basement that has electrical baseboard heating on a blow up mattress. Classy. I suppose it's like camping. In a house. In my old house. With two dogs. And very little heat.
Good thing I have lots of blankets. And yes, I'm shivering as I type this. Because of course, the television is upstairs where the temperature is downright frigid.
Oh and to add to the luck? MLK day is coming up, so that means I've been teaching my children about compassion and the amazing teachings of Dr. King. Last year, I had tears when I read the page that he was murdered. This year? A little kiddo told me that his mom hated white people, except she probably didn't hate me. I suppose I'm honored. Just a little confused... and, one kid said I was just like Dr. King because I say, "Use your words, not your fists."
But the best news in all of this? I'm still smiling (through chattering teeth, of course...) and laughing. So I suppose I'm not so unlucky afterall.

Chiropractor
Thanks to Kristi, I headed to the chiropractor today for the headache problem.
Prior to my appointment, I spent a good four hours worrying about whether or not the doctor would paralyze me. Honestly. I had to google "paralyzed by chiropractor" to be certain.
After he adjusted my neck and back, I feel awesome. I feel like a million bucks now. And the best part? My homework is to relax my beck by laying down with a rolled up towel supporting my neck. I'm thinking it's a totally good excuse to be extremely lazy. "Sorry, hubby.. I can't do the dishes, the doctor said I had to relax!"
No more headache AND school is out.. what a wonderful day!

Turbulence...
I promised I'd give you more information about being locked in a bathroom at 30,000 feet.
I made the 1.5 hour flight back from Michigan on Monday evening. Unfortunately for me, the guy next to me was out cold for most of the flight. I had to pee really badly, but I didn't want to disturb him. With about 25 minutes left in the flight, the pilot came over the speaker and let us know that we would begin our descent and that we should fasten our seat belts. Of course I was like... "Um.. perhaps he doesn't realize that I can't wait 25 minutes to land.. " Thankfully, the man next to me woke up.
Rather than wet my pants, I ran to the bathroom. During that time we hit some major turbulence. Of course I was in the bathroom...
After being thrown around four or five times while peeing (do you know how hard it is to pee while being rocked around? I'm thankful I don't have to stand to pee.. I probably would have peed all over the place!) I finally stood up, attempted to wash my hands, and peeked my head out. The flight attendant was shouting to me, "Stay in there ma'am! Sit down and hold on! It is unsafe for you to be moving. LOCK THE DOOR. Do not come out until I tell you to!"
I'm not quite sure what she wanted me to hold on to, but I sat down and waited it out. I was thrown about a few times, but she pounded on the door and told me to run straight to my seat. Of course, we hit some more turbulence and I landed on some dude, the floor, and the some guy's lap.
Next time I think I'll just pee my pants. Ladies with anxiety should never be stuck in a bathroom on a shaking plane. It's just not good.

It's a Lost Cause...
At least he's cute. Or he'd be kicked to the curb by now.
The following is our convo just a few minutes ago... baking break & bake cookies.
Hubby: Please help me, I can't bake like you can. (suck up.. it's not really baking) I just don't know how to bake cookies!
Me: Seriously? You break them apart and put them on the baking sheet.
Hubby: How far apart? What cookie sheet? Help me.
Me.... utterly annoyed, walking into the kitchen...
Hubby: Want a glass of wine?
Me: Sure.
Hubby: Only if you help with the cookies.
Me: Seriously? (Reading the package) Preheat oven to 350. Break apart. Place 2" apart... could this be any easier?
Hubby: I just needed your help.
Me: (Laughing at his horrible lying/baking skills) You know I'm going to blog about this, right?
Hubby: Yup.
I'm pretty sure it's a lost cause. Don't be jealous ladies, I know you want a helpless cook for a husband.

Birthday Round up...
These were sent to me today at school from my parents. What a lovely surprise!
Please note the seat belt wrapped around them. Yes, that was the only way to get them home without any spillage. When I buckled them in safely, I thought to myself... I must get a picture of this. This is definitely blog worthy.

Less REALLY is more...
So I'm hubby-less and puppy-less tonight. Can I get a heck yeah?!
Don't get me wrong... I love the hubby and adore the puppies. But it's been quite some time since I've had even a few moments to myself. Tonight I'll be indulging in some guilty pleasures that I can't always get away with when one or the other is around.
1. Being on the computer for as.long.as.I.want...without interruptions.
2. Eating cereal for dinner.
3. Catching up on my shows. Now, I can usually get away with this but it almost always involves at least one dog. Said dog usually has to go to the bathroom, or wants to cuddle just at the time the plot is thickening.
4. Going to bed at 8:30 and falling asleep by 8:45. Again, Hubby would be fine with this... it just doesn't usually happen.
5. Not doing the dishes, cooking, or cleaning. I could get away with this when hubby or dogs are home, I just know I shouldn't.
With that being said... I'm off to fry my brain staring at the computer and the television.
Ahhh... freedom.

Face Lift!
I finally came to my senses. The last blog background just wasn't working for me. It was full of crazy code that hubby had to do for me and every time I wanted to simply add a new blog to the blog roll, I had to conference with him. It was a twenty-minute process because I just couldn't be happy with him doing it, I wanted him to teach me to do it.
Well, it would have been if I asked him. But I didn't because I knew how it would play out.
Anyway.. enough rambling. The blog has a new look. I think we'll stick with this for a while.
What do you think?

b.o.r.i.n.g
I totally never thought I'd say this, but my days at school have been quite boring. I'm not going to lie, I thought I would have material coming out of my ears with the hooligans I am hanging out with. I thought I wouldn't be able to remember all the funny things going on over there. Sadly, this week has been pretty low key.
Minus the conversation about w e e d. And, the bazooka. Oh and dad cheating on mom.
But seriously, those really pale in comparison to the last time I worked in this school. I mean, we're talking bruises and some serious WWF wrestling moves.
I'm sure it's just the honeymoon phase and they'll be back to "normal" soon. Until then, I'm going to enjoy the fact that they aren't providing me any drama for the blog. Makes your life boring, but mine so much better.

Babies...
I swear everyone around me either has a baby or has a baby on the way. Weird that we're getting so old. Every time my phone rings or I get an email, I swear it includes the words "We're expecting!" Seriously, folks... I'm going to be P-O-O-R paying for all of those baby presents on top of all the wedding gifts we're buying. Oh well, at least they are baby presents for other babies and not our own!
On a side note, I'm starting to get a little anxious for school to start. For those of you who don't know, I will be working in a classroom that has all children with emotional impairments who were not successful in a regular school. I will definitely be good for a few stories this school year. You know, complete with f*bombs, hitting, kicking, screaming, biting, etc. While I'm totally looking forward to the challenge, I'm so nervous for another school year to start. I've been through this twice before. It's not that I'm not prepared (I've worked three days in my classroom this week!) but I just get so nervous for the first day of school. And, in the past.. being a special education teacher who just pulls kids, I haven't had to bring my A-game on the first day of school. We didn't pull kids the first week. So I had a week to put my feet in the water and get used to it. This year? Not so much.
But... I have a week of vacation with my hubby, the dogs, my parents, hubby's parents, and their two dogs, and my sister-in-law and her boyfriend. That's eight adults and four dogs. Camping. For a week. I'm going to be tired out after this.
Oh! I just remembered, to add to my anxiety-- I will be busy for the next four weekends. Unless hubby can find someone to take my place on the NY trip. Talk about stress!

Pictures
Flowers from my parents. They have to be on the TV because Leila LOVES to eat living things. When I put them on the table, she ate a leaf... so I had to put them out of her reach. I love this picture because it has the pups in it.

Lovin' Life!
1. The summer school kiddos were wonderful. We had a fun day and one little boy said to me, "I hope you're my teacher next year in 3rd grade!".. I didn't have the heart to tell him it wasn't happening.
2. The garden is REALLY growing! Check it out...

Just Another Manic Monday...
I heard that song today on my way home... how fitting?!
Today was day one of summer school and it was a crazy one! First of all, the class I'm in has two classes combined.. so we have 13 students in K-2. That's a lot of kids in one room. Add in four adults and it's certifiably crazy in there.
Well, I have one runner (who also loves to touch electronics/kids/adults and enjoys putting things in his mouth including electronics/kids/adults), one screamer (at decibels I didn't think kids could reach...), and two completely non-verbal students. Plus, two kids almost at grade level (usually that's a nice thing.. in this case, it's not...). And a smattering of other kids who I can't even think of right now because they were nowhere near as needy as the previously mentioned kids. Oh, and I had half the class absent today.
And to top it off? A grad paper that is looming over my head and tonight is the season finale of "The Bachelorette"... so you know how well that paper is going to go.
Next year when I say I'm taking two grad classes AND teaching summer school... remind me that I'm crazy.

I figured it out!
I do know how to put pictures up and it doesn't involve writing a code! YESSSSSS! So I'll leave you with a few puppy pictures because those dogs are just too darn cute.

Just my luck..
So.. just my luck. I have a kiddo from school in my summer school class. It happens to be the one who poops his pants and loves to smear the poop on the wall. Oh and he ALWAYS has a snotty nose.
Pretty sweet for me.
