In my classroom, we talk about using "velvet" words. Velvet words are words that make someone feel good because they are kind, instead of sandpaper words.. sandpaper words hurt others. (I did not make this up, a student who transferred from another school brought it with her and I had to adopt it because my kiddos loved it).
While we were discussing our rules for the day, I asked a kiddo to tell me what being respectful meant.
Student: "VOMIT words, Mrs. L. We use VOMIT words, not sandpaper words!"
Me: "Vomit words? Do you mean velvet words?"
Student: "EWWWWW! Now you think I mean puke words. Not puke words! Ew! Ew! Ew!"
Me: "Oh my.."
Needless to say, one of my little lovelies continued to bring it up by laughing a really crazed laugh and saying, "Vomit! Vomit words! What are vomit words? Puke words!"
Yes, I teach a circus.

Is it a WAKA team? My fiance and I would really like to get in with an Annapolis team. DC is so far sometimes.
My weekend is CRAZY. We have this big community yard sale all day on Saturday and then on Sunday were going to Fredricksburg for the Marine Corps Historic Half.
The following week is Memorial weekend and crazy too.
We will meet! I promise!
